The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, the Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, has announced a landmark partnership with Paxtel Telecom, officially designating the company as the Communication Partner for the entire Church across the province.

The agreement was sealed on Thursday at the Provincial Secretariat in Namirembe through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which will guide the collaboration between Paxtel and the Church.

The ceremony was witnessed by Bishops Micheal Chorey of Karamoja Diocese, Asiimwe Onesimus of North Kigezi, Hannington Suubi of East Busoga, and Jackson Baalwa, Assistant Bishop of the Diocese of Kampala, who represented the Church’s Board of Trustees.

The Paxtel delegation, led by Chairman John Kamya Mukalazi, made a generous donation of UGX 50 million to the Retired Clergy Fund and UGX 10 million to Karamoja Diocese.

Partnership Rooted in Vision

According to Archbishop Kaziimba, discussions with Paxtel began in August 2025 when the company’s leadership presented to the Church’s Board of Trustees at Kabalega Resort Hotel in Hoima. Their proposal, he said, inspired the Church to explore new opportunities within the telecom industry.

What the Partnership Will Deliver

The MoU marks the beginning of a strategic shift toward digital inclusion within the Church of Uganda. Key focus areas include:

Sponsored
  • Establishing a unified communication platform for Church communities;
  • Introducing technology-based services to institutions under the Church, with potential for youth employment;
  • Creating a sustainable revenue stream for the Church without capital investment;
  • Promoting financial literacy and inclusion among members;
  • Enhancing healthcare and social service support.

Church Embracing Innovation

Archbishop Kaziimba emphasized that the partnership aligns with the Church’s broader strategy to utilize its vast land, institutions, and human resources for sustainable development.

“We are already investing in mining, agriculture, education, and health,” he said. “Today, by God’s grace, we are taking the first step into the telecom industry.”

He described the partnership as “not just a business venture, but a Kingdom opportunity,” quoting Psalm 127:1 — “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain.”

The Archbishop concluded with a rallying call for innovation within the Church.

“Many old tools cannot counteract new challenges. We need new tools for new challenges. I believe Paxtel Telecom is one of those tools.”

He prayed that the partnership would flourish and stand as a testament to the Church of Uganda’s commitment to innovative, sustainable, and God-honoring development.
