Seven senior officials from Uganda’s Parliament have been further remanded to Luzira Prison by the Anti-Corruption Court as investigations into alleged corruption continue.

The officials appeared before Grade One Magistrate Esther Asiimwe on Tuesday, who ordered that they remain on remand until July 27, 2026, to allow the State to conclude investigations and prepare committal proceedings.

The group was arrested last week by the Inspectorate of Government (IG) and is facing several charges, including embezzlement, causing financial loss to the government, and money laundering.

During the court session, the magistrate declined to hear their bail applications, explaining that some of the accused face money laundering charges, which can only be handled by the High Court.

Those remanded are Christopher Obore, Director of Communications; Daniel Adilo, Director of Human Resource; Leonard Okema, Executive Secretary in the Office of the Speaker; Rajab Kaaya Ssemalulu, Principal Research Officer; Emmanuel Emuron Okwi, Principal Protocol Officer; Vincent Otebata, Capacity Development Officer; and Methods Murebe, Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda Parliamentary Cooperative Savings and Credit Society (SACCO).
