
The Electoral Commission (EC) has successfully concluded the nomination of candidates for the 2025 Presidential Elections, following a two-day exercise held on September 23 and 24 at the Commission’s grounds in Lweza–Lubowa, Wakiso District.
On the first day, three candidates were duly nominated: incumbent President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), Kasibante Robert of the National People’s Party (NPP), and Mabirizi Joseph of the Common People’s Party (CP).
The second day saw five more candidates enter the race: Nandala Mafabi James Nathan of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Mugisha Gregory Muntu Oyera of the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT), Kyagulanyi Robert Ssentamu of the National Unity Platform (NUP), Munyagwa Mubarak Sserunga of the Community Movement Party (CMP), and Bulira Frank Kabinga of the Republic People’s Party (RPP).
Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission and Returning Officer for the Presidential Nominations, presided over the exercise, confirming that all candidates met the requirements of the Presidential Elections Act, Cap 179.
The EC announced that the official Presidential Campaign Period will commence on September 29, 2025, following the harmonisation of campaign programmes for all candidates.
