The King of Tooro Kingdom, His Majesty Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, has called on the Government to urgently prioritize the upgrade of critical roads leading to major tourism destinations, particularly the Kampala–Fort Portal Tourism City Road and the Kanyantorogo–Buhoma Road in Kanungu District.
Speaking during his visit to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park on Saturday, part of his broader efforts to promote Uganda’s tourism potential through his 25-year development plan, King Oyo highlighted the vital role tourism plays in the national economy, contributing 7% to Uganda’s GDP.
King Oyo emphasized that improving infrastructure to key tourism sites is crucial for boosting the sector’s growth and sustainability.
During the visit, King Oyo was informed that Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is home to 50% of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas.
He commended the Uganda Wildlife Authority for its conservation efforts, which have seen the gorilla population increase from just 300 to 459 individuals.
The King was accompanied by Uganda Wildlife Education Centre Executive Director Dr. James Musinguzi, Tourism Development Director Stephen Masaba, members from the Tooro Kingdom Ministry and Ron Kazooba Kawamara from the Uganda Tourism Board.
