KAMPALA: Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, the Secretary General of the NRM on Tuesday welcomed Ms. Asiimwe Joan into the folds of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.
Asiimwe, once a member of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Party, found herself at odds with the party’s ideologies, leading to her decision to seek a new political home.
Accompanied by Buyaga West constituency MP Hon. Barnabas Tinkasimire and several other local leaders from Kitagwenda and Kamwenge districts, Ms. Asiimwe was received at the party offices located at Plot 10, Kyadondo Road in Nakasero Kampala.

In a symbolic gesture, the Secretary-General handed over the NRM constitution, manifesto, and branded shirts, officially marking her induction into the ruling NRM.
Todwong urged Asiimwe to delve into the party’s core principles, emphasizing the collective focus on issues impacting the masses rather than divisive matters.
“I congratulate you on your decision to join the NRM. Our party’s strength lies in addressing the concerns of our people collectively. We prioritize issues that affect the masses and strive for unity,” Todwong remarked.

He encouraged her to familiarize herself with the party’s ideology and actively engage in its activities.
In her remarks, Ms. Asiimwe expressed her confidence in the NRM’s vision, stating that it holds promise for both the present and future generations.
“I firmly believe in the principles, values, and vision upheld by the NRM. I am eager to contribute to our country’s progress through meaningful political engagement,” she affirmed.

Explaining her departure from the FDC, she cited a loss of direction and purpose within the party as her reason for seeking a new political affiliation.
