KAMULI – Police in Kamuli District are currently investigating a fire outbreak at Kamuli Girls Primary School in Bukwenge Cell, Sabawali Parish, Kamuli Municipality.
The incident transpired on Saturday, the 14th of October 2023, around midnight, when a dormitory housing P7 candidates, comprising 101 students, became engulfed in flames.
Thanks to the prompt action of the matron, all students were safely evacuated to a secure location, preventing potential harm as the fire rapidly spread. The police Fire and Rescue Services team effectively extinguished the flames, though, unfortunately, the pupils’ belongings, including bedding, metallic cases with books, and personal effects, were lost in the inferno.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire originated from an unoccupied lower bed. The student on the upper bed noticed the increasing heat and quickly reported it to the matron. Despite her efforts to contain the fire in its early stages using an extinguisher, it escalated beyond control, leading to the prioritization of student evacuation over salvaging belongings.
ASP Micheal Kasanda, the spokesperson for Busoga North Police, confirmed the incident. He stated that comprehensive investigations are underway to determine the root cause of this devastating fire outbreak.
