Security agencies have arrested five suspects in connection with a series of aggravated robberies within the Kampala Metropolitan Policing Area and recovered three firearms.
The arrests were made during an intelligence-led operation conducted between January 24 and 27, 2026, in Kiti A Zone, Kirinya Parish, Bweyogerere Division, Wakiso District.
The suspects have been identified as Amutuhairwe Robinson, a discharged former army personnel; Okello Daniel, a security guard working with Fortebet; Kasango Arafat; Luyirika Joseph Innocent; and Alphonse Daniel.
During the operation, officers recovered three firearms and three magazines, among other exhibits.
Police say that following interrogation, the suspects confessed to their involvement in the murder of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Bagenda Emmanuel, the Officer-in-Charge of Ntawo.
The incident occurred on November 23, 2025, at about 10:00 a.m. along the Ntawo–Nyenje Road in Ntawo Cell, Ntawo Ward, Mukono Central Division, Mukono District.
Preliminary investigations indicate that ASP Bagenda was shot dead while on patrol after acting on intelligence related to an armed robbery in the area.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Rachael Kawala, the suspects further confessed to participating in several aggravated robberies, particularly mobile money-related robberies, within the Kampala Metropolitan Area.
“Efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest additional suspects connected to these crimes,” Kawala said.
She commended the officers involved in the operation for their dedication and professionalism, and reassured the public that all violent criminal acts will be thoroughly investigated and pursued to their logical conclusion.
