Uganda has stepped up its preparations for the successful co-hosting of the TotalEnergies CAF AFCON PAMOJA 2027, unveiling a comprehensive, multi-sectoral strategy backed by significant government investment and strong regional collaboration.
According to an official update, the government has adopted a “whole-of-country approach” to ensure the tournament’s success, bringing together over 20 institutions from both the public and private sectors.
This coordinated effort is being spearheaded through an Inter-Sectoral Steering Forum established in November 2024 by the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports to support the Local Organizing Committee (LOC).
The LOC, formally gazetted in March 2025 with approval from the Confederation of African Football, is leading Uganda’s preparations alongside technical teams across ministries and agencies.
The government has committed over UGX 2.2 trillion towards infrastructure, logistics, and operational readiness for both AFCON 2027 and the earlier CHAN 2024 tournament.
An additional UGX 905 billion, championed by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has been allocated to address critical inter-sectoral needs.
