KABALE: Kabale and Rubanda districts have reported low turn up in the number of youth that applied to join the Uganda Police Force.

On February 7, 2024, the Uganda Police released an advertisement inviting applicants aged between 18 and 23 years to fill 2500 positions, with the application deadline set for February 18th. However, only 118 applications were received in Kabale and 120 in Rubanda District, as confirmed by Kabale District Police Commander, Joseph Bakaleke, and Rubanda Deputy Resident Commissioner, Eric Ssewandigi.

Bakaleke noted that many applicants in Kabale District lacked national identity cards, surpassed the age limit of 23, and failed to meet the educational requirements.

Rubanda Deputy Resident Commissioner Ssewandigi attributed the low turnout to inadequate sensitization, stating that the advertisement was issued on short notice. He further explained that many eligible applicants had not received their Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) pass slips, which were required to accompany their application forms.
