Kanungu Accounts Officer Arrested Over Embezzlement of Funds

KANUNGU: Charles Mugisha the Assistant Accounts Officer Kanungu District was on Wednesday arrested by the office of Inspector General of Government Kigezi regional office on charges of embezzling over Ugx 218,840,000 M.Sam Agaba Inspector General in – charge of Kigezi sub region confirms the arrest of Charles Mugisha saying that he will be charged with Embezzlement contrary to section 19 of the anti corruption act 2009 and False accounting by a public officer contrary to section 22 of the anti corruption act 2009.

Agaba says that Between 1st and 30th June 2019 Mugisha Charles while employed as senior accounts assistant of Kanungu District local government has with mismanagement of Ugx 218,840,000 M, knowingly furnished false statement in respect to Ugx 67,052,000 M of it which was received by him meant to be used for various Ebola related Activities for Kanungu district local government.

“In 2019 the IGG Kigezi regional office received a complaint alleging that Two Hundred eighteen million eight hundred forty thousand shillings that was sent to Kanungu District Local government to manage issues of Ebola outbreak had been mismanaged by health District officer and other officers immediately the investigations kicked off, though it was unfortunate the District health officer died in the due course, However as the investigations continued and the IGG office was able to establish that Charles Mugisha Senior Accounts assistant had mismanaged and embezzled funds.”says Sam Agaba inspector General in – charge of Kigezi sub region.
