The Minister of State for Trade, Industry and Cooperatives Hon David Bahati has asked the drivers to avoid over speeding and driving while drunk, in order to reduce road accidents which have increased in the Country.
Minister Bahati who is also the Ndorwa West Member of Parliament was today speaking as the Chief Guest of honor at St John’s Kamuganguzi Church of Uganda Archdeaconry, during the thanksgiving service of Bernard Jackson Kwatirayo and his wife Provia Tibamuchwera Kwatirayo who were celebrating 60 years in marriage.
The couple are parents of the Kabale district National Resistance Movement party, publicity secretary Edison Turyahabwa alias political and the Deputy Head teacher of St Banabas Karujanga Secondary school, Sam Agaba Kwatirayo.
Minister Bahati said that for the last five days of Christmas festivities traffic police has registered several motor accidents where most of them are being caused by over speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol, asking the road users to always be sober while on the road.
According to Uganda Police report, a total of 55 people perished in road crashes across the country in just four days during Christmas season from 23rd -26th December. The 55 people were from the 267 road accidents across the country where 212 people were also seriously injured.
Minister Bahati said the public should enjoy responsibly and welcome the new year in peace, avoid night driving and movements to avoid being victims as they welcome the new year.
Reflecting on road Crashes registered in this festive season, Minister Bahati told Christians that before the National Resistance Movement Party took over power in 1986, Life expectancy was at 41 years, but due to Immunization, life expectancy is even above 60 years.
Minister Bahati also reminded Christians the knowing God also make people live longer on Earth applauding Mzee Bernard for Loving and working for the Lord.
Minister Bahati commended Mzee Bernard as a strong supporter of National Resistance Movement Party who has even planted good seed of NRM in the area.
Bahati also fulfilled his pledge of donating Terrazzo worth 105 million shillings towards the fining the floor of St Johns Kamuganguzi Church of Uganda which he pledged in July this Year.
“There is no any other way I can thank God other than supporting his Church. Those who say that am only investing in churches, be reminded that there is no loss in Working for the Lord. I will live to build the church of God” Minister Bahati Says.
Preaching during the service, the Retired Parish priest of Mukarangye Church of Uganda parish Rev Christmas Mufumu asked the people to always comfort their fellows during difficulties and expressed concern over how people pray to God only when they are in difficulties.
