Police in Kasese District have arrested Morris Kithenge Masereka, the NRM party registrar for Ibanda-Kyanya Town Council, for allegedly tampering with official party register books, resulting in the loss of 15 registers.
According to SP Nelson Tumushime, the Rwenzori East regional police spokesperson, the 41-year-old suspect is currently detained at Kasese Central Police Station as investigations continue.
“It is alleged that the registrar tampered with the register books, leading to the loss of 15 registers. This prompted police to take swift action and arrest him,” SP Tumushime said.
The missing registers are considered vital to the ongoing NRM internal electoral processes and Baraza (community meetings) taking place across the district.
Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and report any suspicious activity that may disrupt the NRM voting process or Baraza engagements.
“We appeal to the public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies, including the Police, UPDF, and the Office of the RDC, to ensure the process runs smoothly and without interference,” Tumushime added.
The arrest comes amid the ruling party’s nationwide grassroots elections, a key step in strengthening internal structures ahead of the 2026 general elections. Investigations are ongoing.
