The Kabale Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Godfrey Nyakahuma has temporarily suspended voting for one hour in Rushambya Cell, Kirigime Ward, Southern Division of Kabale Municipality, following protests by voters.
The unrest erupted after Salim Owoyesigyire, the acting Village Chairman and an LC1 Chairperson candidate, was reportedly excluded from the NRM yellow book during the party’s ongoing primary elections. Owoyesigyire is contesting against retired Diocese of Kigezi Archdeacon David Rurihoona.
RDC Nyakahuma announced the suspension to allow election officials time to consult with the NRM Secretariat on the proper election guidelines before resuming the voting process.
Kabale District NRM Registrar Babrah Ainebyoona confirmed that Owoyesigyire is eligible to be voted for, stating that he had been duly nominated under the newly issued party guidelines.
Joshua Musinguzi, the NRM Electoral Commission official for the village, noted that 432 voters are registered in the NRM yellow book.
