Residents of Munkunyu Sub-county in Kasese District have raised concerns over alleged misconduct by some police officers, accusing them of facilitating crime, mistreating complainants, and providing poor services.
The complaints were raised during a community dialogue meeting held on Monday at Munkunyu Health Centre, located at the sub-county headquarters.
A section of residents alleged that some officers treat complainants with arrogance and often cite language barriers as an excuse for failing to offer timely assistance. They also accused officers of demanding excessive fuel money before responding to crime scenes and, in some cases, releasing suspects without providing satisfactory explanations to victims and the community.

Responding to the concerns, the Bwera Division Police Commander, SP Joseph Bakaleke, warned that stern disciplinary action would be taken against any police officer found engaging in unprofessional conduct.
SP Bakaleke condemned allegations of soliciting bribes, charging members of the public for police bonds, demanding fuel from complainants before responding to incidents, and other forms of misconduct, describing such practices as unacceptable.
He assured residents that the allegations would be thoroughly investigated and that any officer found culpable would face the appropriate disciplinary measures.
