The Kisoro Grade One Magistrate’s Court has remanded a 28-year-old man to Kisoro Government Prison until November 5, 2026, over allegations of raping and murdering a 16-year-old Mutwa girl.

Vincent Mashengesho, also known as Fit Fit, is facing two counts of rape and one count of murder arising from an incident that allegedly occurred in June this year in Kamonyi Village, Northern Division, Kisoro Municipality.

The prosecution alleges that Mashengesho unlawfully caused the death of Brendah Munezero, a 16-year-old Mutwa girl and resident of Kisoro Hill Village, Busamba Ward in Southern Division, Kisoro Municipality.

Mashengesho appeared before Grade One Magistrate Bob Asiimwe on Friday, where the State Attorney, Eroni Nambi, told court that investigations into the matter were still ongoing.

The prosecution asked court for an adjournment to allow police to complete the investigations.

Mashengesho was not allowed to take a plea on the charges at this stage.

Meanwhile, Brendah’s relatives, including her brothers and aunts, as well as her friends and officials from the Organisation for Batwa Development in Uganda (OBDU), have called for justice for the deceased.

The relatives urged court to ensure that the case is handled in accordance with the law, saying they want justice for Brendah and protection for other members of the Batwa community who they say face sexual harassment and other forms of abuse.

The accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty by court.
