Man Arrested for Allegedly Strangling 10-Year-Old Son to Death in Kanungu

KANUNGU – The Kanungu district territorial police have apprehended a 46-year-old man named Agaba Onacklet on charges of strangling his 10-year-old biological son to death.

The victim, Ivan Nuwagaba, was a student at Karuhinda Primary School and resided in Kazirankye village, Northern ward, Kanungu town council, Kanungu district.

 

 

According to reports, on June 28, 2023, at approximately 10:00 a.m., the suspect sent his son to purchase cigarettes worth 1000 Ugandan shillings. However, the boy only bought cigarettes worth 500 Ugandan shillings and used the remaining amount to buy food for himself. This act angered the father, who then threatened to harm the boy whenever he got the chance.

 

 

Out of fear, the deceased had been avoiding his father and attempting to escape from him.

However, on July 2, 2023, around 1:00 p.m., the father managed to corner the victim while he was alone in Kanyangyende village, Northern ward, Kanungu town council. The suspect stealthily approached the boy, grabbed him, and strangled him using a rope.

 

Afterward, he staged the scene to appear as a suicide by hanging the body under a mango tree.

 

The body was positioned with the legs straight on the ground, and the rope was intentionally left loose.

 

 

Elly Maate, the Kigezi region Police spokesperson, stated that the local area chairperson, Hellen Ayebare, alerted the police.

 

The crime scene was promptly visited, documented, and a postmortem examination was conducted.

 

The suspect was subsequently arrested and is currently in custody awaiting prosecution.
