Mercy Kanyesigye, an independent candidate for National Female Youth Member of Parliament, has petitioned President Yoweri Museveni, asking for his personal intervention to safeguard the integrity of the February 6, 2026 general elections, in a move she says is aimed at strengthening democracy and restoring confidence among Uganda’s youth.

In a petition dated February 2, 2026, Kanyesigye congratulated President Museveni on his victory in the 2026 General Elections, praising his leadership for delivering stability, peace and development, while inspiring renewed hope among young people across the country.

She however, expressed concern over alleged irregularities during the NRM primaries for the National Female Youth MP flag bearer, which she said risked undermining the will of young voters.

She emphasized that her appeal was made in good faith and out of loyalty to the Movement and the country, with the goal of ensuring a transparent, peaceful and credible electoral process.

She appealed to the President to guide key institutions to uphold neutrality and professionalism ahead of the polls, including ensuring that security agencies remain non-partisan, that state officials refrain from interfering in the process, and that the Electoral Commission conducts the election strictly in line with the law and democratic principles.
