The Minister of Presidency, Milly Babirye Babalanda, has asked newly appointed managers of Presidential Industrial Hubs to uphold integrity, accountability and professionalism as they take on their responsibilities of managing public resources and advancing Uganda’s wealth creation agenda.
Speaking at the opening of an induction training for newly appointed Presidential Industrial Hub finance and demonstration farm managers at Oliver Tambo Training School in Kaweweta on Wednesday, Minister Babalanda commended President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for establishing the industrial hubs, describing them as a transformative initiative that is equipping thousands of Ugandan’s, especially young people, with practical vocational skills and opportunities for self-employment.
She said the hubs have created pathways for many citizens who were unable to pursue formal education, enabling them to acquire certified skills that improve their competitiveness in the labour market and contribute to national development.
Minister Babalanda reminded the managers that their appointments come with significant responsibility, noting that the success of the industrial hubs depends on sound financial management, transparency, effective leadership and accountability.
“The knowledge and skills acquired during this induction will prepare you to execute your duties diligently and responsibly,” she said, urging participants to embrace the training as a foundation for successful careers in public service.
The minister emphasized that finance and farm managers are custodians of public resources and public trust, and must therefore perform their duties with integrity, diligence and commitment to excellence.
She also issued a strong warning against corruption, fraud and financial mismanagement, saying such practices undermine service delivery, erode public confidence and frustrate government efforts to achieve socio-economic transformation under Uganda’s Vision 2040 and the National Development Plan IV.
Reaffirming government’s stance against corruption, Babalanda stressed that there would be zero tolerance for abuse of office and misuse of public resources, in line with President Museveni’s call of “No Sleeping, No Corruption.”
She encouraged the managers to actively participate in the induction programme, engage with facilitators and fully understand the systems, values and procedures that will guide their work across the country.
Minister Babalanda said their ultimate responsibility is to improve livelihoods, empower communities and support the government’s mission of creating wealth and sustainable economic opportunities for all Ugandans.
