GULU: President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed the Former Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda as the new chancellor of Gulu University.
Dr Rugunda who served as Uganda Prime Minister from 2014-2021 and is now the Special Envoy for Special Duties, Office of the President is to be installed as Gulu University chancellor on Friday 24th February 2023 replacing former Vice Chancellor of Mbarara University of Sciences and Technology, Prof Frederick Kayanja,
Dr Rugunda when contacted he confirmed the appointment as chancellor of Gulu University and said that he is to be installed on Friday this week.
“Yes its true I have been appointed as the chancellor of Gulu University as am to be installed on Friday “said Dr Rugunda.
He also said that he is honored by the President appointment
According to Section 30 of the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions (Amendment) Act, 2006, the chancellor of a University shall hold office for a period of four years but shall be eligible for reappointment for one more term.
