The Secretary General of National Resistance Movement, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, has called for sustained political stability in Burundi as the country edges closer to its 2027 presidential election.
Todwong made the remarks during high-level talks with leaders of the ruling CNDD-FDD on Sunday, April 26, where he led a delegation from the NRM.
He conveyed greetings from President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the broader NRM leadership, while commending Burundi for what he described as sustained peace and internal stability.
“I bring you greetings from H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the entire NRM leadership,” Todwong said.
Todwong further applauded the CNDD-FDD for its role in maintaining stability, emphasizing that consistent governance remains critical for national development.
“I congratulate you as a party for the stability in Burundi,” he added.
Todwong also welcomed the party’s endorsement of President Évariste Ndayishimiye for another term, noting that continuity in leadership can help strengthen long-term stability and policy direction.
“I congratulate you for recommending the President to run for another term in office, because stability is often strengthened by continuity in leadership,” he noted.
The discussions highlighted deepening political engagement between the two ruling parties, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to cooperation on governance and regional stability within the East African Community.
