KAMPALA – Today, Parliament will honor the late Dokolo Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Cecilia Barbara Atim Ogwal, who passed away due to cancer in India last Thursday.
Her body arrived in Uganda yesterday, with Members of Parliament and family members receiving it at Entebbe International Airport. President Museveni has granted an official burial for Ogwal.
Her body is scheduled to be received at Parliament at 9:00 AM for review, followed by a special sitting at 12:00 PM for the final tribute.
Speaker Anita Annet Among, leading the proceedings, emphasized celebrating Ogwal’s unifying legacy and thanked the Clergy and political parties for respecting her contribution to Uganda.

According to Among, Section 6 of The Administration of Parliament Act 2007 places the responsibility for deceased or living Members of Parliament in the hands of the Parliamentary Commission.
The Commission is obligated to coordinate burial arrangements, working closely with Ogwal’s family, the Lango Parliamentary Group, FDC leadership in Parliament, and other groups she belonged to.
Hon. Ogwal, a dedicated legislator since 1996, served on Committees for Physical Infrastructure and Budget. She was Uganda’s representative to the Pan African Parliament (PAP) and a Parliamentary Commissioner in the 10th Parliament.
Ogwal’s notable career included representing Lira Municipality in 1994 and later Dokolo district as Woman MP from 2011 until her passing at the age of 77.
