KISORO – The Bishop of the Diocese of Muhabura, Rt Rev Godfrey Mbitse has urged Christians to put aside conflicts within the diocese and focus on serving God in the on going 29th Diocesan Anglican Youth Missioners (MAYM) conference.

Conflicts in the Diocese arose in September 2021 when Bishop Emeritus Cranmer Mugisha hinted at early retirement, sparking accusations of failed church projects and divisive practices.

Philemon Mateke and others accused Bishop Emeritus Mugisha of hastening his retirement due to project failures, nepotism, and fostering division among Christians. Legal action ensued in November 2021, with residents seeking an injunction against selecting Bishop Emeritus Mugisha’s successor. The court granted an injunction, but the petitioners later withdrew for an out-of-court settlement.

In his remarks today, Bishop Mbitse acknowledged internal challenges but urged Christians to avoid conflicts and concentrate on spreading the gospel.
