The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) National Vice Chairman, Michael Nuwagira Kaguta, commonly known as Toyota, has warned members against insulting and attacking one another on social media, urging them to uphold discipline, unity and respect as the organisation addresses internal disagreements.

Nuwagira said personal attacks against fellow members risk undermining the organisation’s unity and image, calling on members to resolve their differences through constructive criticism and established internal procedures.

His warning comes amid a dispute over the appointment of a regional coordinator for Western Uganda, following conflicting communications involving PLU mobiliser Agaba Gerald.

In a statement, Nuwagira appealed to members to stop targeting Agaba and other individuals who have contributed to the organisation’s growth and mobilisation efforts.

He said members should appreciate one another’s contributions and focus on strengthening the organisation’s structures across the country instead of engaging in personal disputes.

“Our priority should be discipline, unity, respect, and advancing the PLU agenda, not fighting among ourselves,” he said.

Nuwagira also cautioned members against insulting, abusing or personally attacking colleagues on social media, warning that those found engaging in such conduct would face disciplinary action in accordance with the organisation’s rules and procedures.

The statement comes after PLU rejected Agaba’s claim to the position of regional coordinator for Western Uganda, saying he had not been officially appointed to the role.

Frank Mwesigye, a PLU mobiliser and head of media, said a letter circulating under Agaba’s name was unauthorised and did not reflect the organisation’s recognised leadership structure.

Mwesigye said regional and sub-regional coordinators are appointed by PLU National Chairman Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba and that no member could assume such a position without the chairman’s approval.

He said Minister for Local Government Balaam Barugahara had been appointed vice chairman for the Western Region, placing regional coordination under his leadership.

Mwesigye identified Nzeire Shadrack as the Ankole sub-region coordinator, deputised by Tabaro Didas Tumwesigye, while Polly Katwiire serves as the sub-region spokesperson.

According to Mwesigye, the appointments were made by Gen Kainerugaba on February 16, 2024, and the list was released by former PLU general secretary Daudi Kabanda.

He said the officials were expected to operate under Barugahara’s supervision and that the organisation was working to resolve the matter internally.

The dispute follows a memo dated October 13, 2026, in which Agaba addressed PLU coordinators from village to district level across Western Uganda, identifying himself as the regional coordinator and raising concerns about recent statements on X.

In the memo, Agaba said grassroots members had contributed their own resources, including motorcycles, airtime and personal funds, to build and mobilise support for the movement since 2022, without salaries or facilitation.

He said their activities included registering coordinators, conducting civic education and mobilising support for PLU programmes.

Agaba urged members to remain calm and disciplined and invited them to a PLU baraza scheduled for October 17 in Rubaare, Ntungamo District. He also announced a regional press conference scheduled for October 19 to communicate what he described as their agreed way forward.

The dispute has also prompted PLU to clarify the status of the Tuko Pamoja NRM/PLU Task Force.

Mwesigye said the task force was established temporarily to support campaign activities between November 2025 and February 2026. He thanked those who participated, crediting them for their contribution to the campaign.

He urged PLU members and the public to disregard communications that contradict the organisation’s official appointments.

Nuwagira reiterated that PLU was bigger than any individual and called on members to protect its image, respect one another and remain focused on their common objectives.
