The Commander of the United Nations Guard Unit XI (UNGU-XI), Lt Col Peter Ruyogoza Barigye, has called on female Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) personnel deployed in Somalia to remain vigilant and fully committed to their mission.

Speaking during a routine engagement at the UNGU-XI headquarters on Friday, Lt Col Barigye praised the discipline, resilience and dedication of the female officers, emphasizing their crucial role in ensuring mission success.

“You must stay alert and ensure our security is never compromised. Your presence and performance are central to the success of this operation,” he said.

He also urged the troops to foster unity and support one another, particularly those serving in high-risk areas.

Lt Col Barigye commended recent military gains by AUSSOM and Somali National Army (SNA) forces in Lower Shabelle. He cited Operation Silent Storm, a joint offensive that successfully dislodged Al-Shabaab militants from the Sabiid and Anole regions once key launchpads for attacks on UN and AUSSOM bases.
