President Yoweri Museveni has appointed former Kabale High Court Resident Judge, Justice Moses Kazibwe Kawumi, as the new Deputy Chief Justice.
Justice Kazibwe, who currently serves on the Court of Appeal bench, previously worked as the Resident Judge in Kabale and Mubende, among other stations across the country.
The position of Deputy Chief Justice has remained vacant since the retirement of Justice Richard Buteera in April last year after attaining the mandatory retirement age of 70.
Counsel Justus Muhangi of Muhangi Justus and Partners Advocates praised Justice Kazibwe for his dedication during his tenure in Kabale, noting that he served at the station for about six years at a time when many judges reportedly declined postings there.
“Despite many judges creating all sorts of excuses to avoid the station, Justice Kazibwe accepted to work in Kabale and served with diligence. He has now reaped the blessings of sacrifice and commitment to serving in an upcountry station,” Muhangi said.
Sheikh Kassim Kamugisha, a renowned Islamic scholar and former aspirant for Kabale Municipality Member of Parliament under the NRM ticket, also hailed the appointment, describing Justice Kazibwe as a committed and hardworking judicial officer.
“Justice Kazibwe was a serious and dedicated judge who endured serving in what were then considered hard-to-reach areas. Sacrifice pays,” Sheikh Kamugisha said.
According to State House, President Museveni also appointed Agnes Alum as the new Chief Registrar.
Agnes Alum previously served as the Registrar for Magistrates Affairs and Data Management.
