President Museveni has begun a two-day official working visit to Tanzania aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two neighbouring countries.
Museveni arrived in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday at the invitation of Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan. He was received at Julius Nyerere International Airport by Tanzania’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, Uganda’s High Commissioner to Tanzania, Col Fred Mwesigye, and other senior government officials.
The Ugandan leader was accorded a guard of honour before proceeding to his official residence.
According to Tanzania’s Directorate of Presidential Communications, Presidents Museveni and Hassan are expected to hold bilateral talks on trade, investment, energy, infrastructure, transport, tourism, defence and security, as well as regional integration under the East African Community (EAC).
The two leaders will also review progress on joint strategic projects, including the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), and discuss measures to boost cross-border trade, strengthen economic cooperation and improve regional connectivity.
The visit is expected to culminate in the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding, including agreements intended to deepen cooperation in the energy sector.
Museveni’s visit is his second to Tanzania this year, following an earlier trip in February, and comes as the two countries continue to strengthen longstanding diplomatic and economic ties.
The visit also builds on previous bilateral engagements, including the Fifth Session of the Tanzania–Uganda Joint Permanent Commission, which seeks to advance cooperation in trade, infrastructure, regional integration and sustainable development.
