KAMPALA – President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has allocated Shs1.2 billion to 12 ghetto SACCOs in the Kampala Metropolitan Area.
Addressing the launch at Kololo Independence Grounds yesterday, President Museveni emphasized collaboration and transparency among the SACCOs. He thanked leaders for their efforts in transforming the lives of ghetto youth in Kampala, Wakiso, and Mukono.
President Museveni, recalling his own work in Katwe in 1968, stressed the importance of the ghetto in Uganda’s socio-economic transformation. He encouraged the youth to engage in agriculture, industry, services, and ICT, promising government support.
Hajjat Minsa Kabanda, Minister of Kampala, highlighted the grassroots approach to transform Kampala, requesting employment opportunities for educated ghetto youth in the government.
The Director of Crime Intelligence, Brig. Ddamulira, informed the President that the Ghetto Structure, initiated last year, involves 120,000 youth in 216 zones, aiming for peace and development.
Maj. Emma Kutesa acknowledged the President’s directive to stabilize and transform ghettos post the 2021 General elections. He thanked President Museveni for visionary leadership.
Chairman of Ghetto Structures, Mr. Shafiq Kalyango, expressed gratitude for the support, pledging unwavering support and urging President Museveni to stand for the Presidency in 2026.
