President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has directed Members of Parliament to spearhead the profiling of household welfare status in every county, as part of efforts to strengthen the implementation of the Parish Development Model (PDM).

President Museveni made the directive while presiding over the International Labour Day celebrations at Nkoyoyo Boarding Primary School grounds in Matale, Buikwe District on Friday.

The event was held under the theme: “Safeguarding Uganda’s Progress: Empowering the Workforce and Promoting a Decent Workforce for Competitive Enterprises.”

The President said the initiative is key to lifting Ugandans out of subsistence living, noting that accurate data on household income levels will ensure targeted support reaches the intended beneficiaries.

Museveni urged MPs to fully support the PDM, which is being scaled up in both funding and coverage, citing what he described as its growing impact across communities.

He pointed to the success of the Limoto Presidential Fish Farm as a model for profitable and sustainable aquaculture, and emphasised the critical role wetlands play in irrigation and agriculture.

Museveni further advised the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) to explore more profitable investment avenues for workers’ savings. He suggested a shift toward infrastructure projects such as toll roads, arguing they offer better returns compared to current strategies.
