Recruit Collapses During UPDF Fitness Test in Dokolo

DOKOLO: One recruit candidate from Dokolo District collapsed during a physical fitness test at the Dokolo District Headquarters in the ongoing Uganda Peoples Defense Forces recruitment exercise.

Mr. Okwir Levi, a resident of Okwongodul B Village, Okwongodul Parish in Dokolo County, collapsed on Tuesday at Dokolo Technical Institute in Dokolo District Town Council, where the exercise is being conducted. He collapsed shortly before completing the 4-kilometer run.

Mr. Levi was immediately evacuated by the Team Six ambulance and medical team for intensive first aid.

According to Captain Doctor Alex Kissa, the Team Six Medical Officer, Mr. Levi’s blood pressure had dropped below normal, but he was resuscitated in time.

After gaining stability and recovery, Mr. Levi stated that he did not drink enough water and did not eat supper or breakfast before coming for the exercise. He is now out of danger pending further medical examinations.

Mr. Levi did not make a kilometer before he fainted.

According to Captain Kato Ahmad Hassan, UPDF 4th Infantry Division PIO/Spokesperson for Team Six, the recruitment team is at Dokolo Technical Institute to recruit shortlisted candidates who had initially applied to join the forces.

“Today, the team will recruit candidates from Amolatar and Dokolo Districts. Tomorrow, July 10th, the team will recruit candidates from Kaberamaido and Kalaki Districts at Dokolo Technical Institute in Dokolo Town Council,” Captain Kato stated.

Captain Kato said that by the end of the day, the recruitment exercise will have recruited 39 candidates from Dokolo District and 30 candidates from Amolatar District.

“We registered eight absentee candidates from Dokolo and five from Amolatar District,” he said.

He added, “Between July 10th and July 14th, the team will vet and recruit 25 candidates from Kaberamaido, 26 from Kalaki, 42 from Apac, 39 from Kwania, 83 from Oyam, and 52 from Kole District, as per the quotas allotted to each district based on recent census statistics.”

He said that three individuals were caught with fake Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) result slips from Dokolo District and three from Amolatar District.

“They were handed over to their respective district DISOs for further investigations and management,” Captain Kato said.

He noted that the team will only handle those who have been shortlisted, vetted, and cleared by the team to join the UPDF.

He said that the medical team examined candidates for body deformities among other in-depth medical check-ups.

“For checks and balances during the recruitment exercise, RDC Dokolo- Madam Aketch Babra, Deputy RDC Mr. Ismail Masaba, Assistant RDC Amolatar- Pule Boniface, Deputy RDC Amolatar- Mr. Lyala Ahmed, and DISO Amolatar are operating alongside Team Six members to ensure full support and guidance for candidates from their respective districts,” Captain Kato said.

He appealed to candidates to prepare thoroughly before coming for the recruitment exercise.

“Let them have all the necessary original academic credentials and supportive documents so that they can be vetted,” he said.

He added, “An overwhelming number of youths turned up to be recruited, although not shortlisted, in an attempt to try their luck. The recruitment exercise will finish with Apac and Kole Districts on July 14th as per the UPDF recruitment schedule.”
