State Minister for Finance (General Duties), Hon. Henry Musasizi, has called on fellow politicians to approach elections with humility and sportsmanship, warning against the growing tendency to treat political contests as “do or die” battles.

Speaking on Saturday at the wedding ceremony of Praise Ainembabazi and Marcelline Atukunda in Mengo Ward, Nshanjare Town Council Rubanda District, Minister Musasizi likened elections to a football match, where preparation, strategy, and acceptance of results are key.

“Elections should not be a matter of life and death. When you join a contest, you should be prepared for either victory or defeat. The problem is that some of our colleagues go in with only one expectation, which is why they end up so disappointed,” He said.

Drawing from his passion for football, Minister Musasizi compared the electoral process to his favorite team, Arsenal FC.

“For Arsenal to win, they must train and prepare well. Similarly, candidates must work hard and engage voters instead of assuming they are entitled to victory,” He explained.

He further cautioned against premature celebrations based on results from a single polling station, stressing that an entire constituency’s decision can only be determined after tallying votes across all stations.

“An election is bigger than one village or polling center. That’s why we always have to wait for the full picture before drawing conclusions,” He noted.

Minister Musasizi used the occasion to announce government’s plan to rehabilitate the 10-kilometer Muko–Kaara–Nshanjare road in the next phase of road works.

He said he had already discussed the matter with District Chairman Stephen Kasyaba, who emphasized the urgency of improving the road network in the area.

Minister Musasizi also pledged support towards ongoing construction works at Kaara Church of Uganda, donating 100 pre-painted iron sheets to help in completing the project.

“Chairman Kasyaba will deliver the iron sheets,” he confirmed.

Minister Musasizi highlighted his personal ties with the bride, noting that their families have long-standing relations. He further revealed that Atukunda has been one of his earliest recruits in politics, serving actively within the NRM youth structures in Rubanda District.

“Merceline is disciplined, knowledgeable, and loyal. I can assure you, Praise, that you have hit the jackpot in marrying her. She is also a scientist, and you know government is actively promoting sciences,” Minister Musasizi said.
