The Rukiga County Member of Parliament Patrick Kiconco Katabazi and Rukiga District Woman MP Dr. Sylvia Arinaitwe are lobbying the government to establish the district’s first hospital and upgrade an additional health centre to improve access to quality healthcare.

Kiconco made the revelation on Saturday while addressing residents of Bucundura Parish in Kashambya Sub-county who had gathered to celebrate his victory in the 2026 parliamentary elections.

He said he, Dr. Arinaitwe and the district leadership were engaging relevant government authorities to secure the establishment of a district hospital, which is proposed to be located near the district headquarters in Mparo Town Council.

Kiconco said once the hospital is established, they will also lobby for the upgrade of Kashambya Health Centre III to Health Centre IV.

Kiconco also disclosed that he and Dr. Arinaitwe had met Finance Minister Henry Musasizi to discuss progress on the proposed 24-kilometre road linking Rukiga and Rubanda districts through Hamurwa Sub-county.

The Kashambya LC3 Chairperson, Elineho Bandaganire, commended the two MPs for what he described as active representation and lobbying for the district, despite having served in office for only two months.

Bandaganire singled out their efforts to follow up on the presidential pledge to construct the Muhanga-Kisiizi tarmac road and establish a district hospital as some of their notable achievements.

Kiconco made history by becoming the first Rukiga County MP to win in all six sub-counties. He secured 61.5 percent of the vote, the highest percentage recorded by a constituency MP in the Kigezi Sub-region.

He has since been appointed to the Parliamentary Committee on Budget and the Finance Committee.

“These are strategic parliamentary committees, and through them, I will ensure that issues affecting Rukiga District are well represented,” Kiconco told residents of Bucundura.

Christine Bonabaana, the former Kashambya Sub-county Speaker and Kiconco’s area coordinator, said the event was organised to congratulate Kiconco and celebrate the collective victory of NRM supporters in the 2026 general elections.
