The Assistant Inspector General of Police Charles Birungi has today Friday 16th December 2022 commissioned Rukungiri Central Police station new building block at Rwanyakashesha hill, Eastern division in Rukungiri municipality.
Speaking at the commissioning on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, Mr Martins Okoth-Ochola, Birungi who doubles as the director of welfare, logistics and sports, revealed that the Uganda police built the structure to fulfil its mandate of providing quality services to the people.
He tasked police commanders to enhance security on their units as one of the ways to respond to any violent attacks against officers and security installations.
AIGP Birungi disclosed that the attacks are attributed to laxity of the police officers who are deployed and when attacked, they win them since they are unaware.
“Most, if not all the incidents, could have been prevented or thwarted but for some lapses which we are addressing, including laxity and rouge behaviours by some of our own elements in some of these incidents,” Birungi disclosed.
He however calls for vigilance at all police stations in a bid to stop gunmen from attacking the security installations.
Nsubuga Bewayo Stephen urged the leadership of Rukungiri police and officers at large to maintain the commissioned facility and put it into proper use for the benefit of the general public.
He requested the top police leadership to promote Rukungiri DPC Musa Tibakirana because of being a hardworking man beyond expectation.
Nsubuga called upon the general public to embrace vaccination of Covid-19 as it was directed by the President of Uganda Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
Musa Tibakirana, the Rukungiri district police Commander (DPC) revealed that although the building has been commissioned, they are still lacking manpower requesting more as this will improve on their service delivery to the district.
Tibakirana appreciated the Inspector General of Police and the stakeholders of Rukungiri for providing such a wonderful building as this will provide a conducive working environment assuring for proper use and maintenance for the benefit of people.
The police facility has been under construction by the directorate of engineering, logistics and construction of police.
The Construction works commenced on 17th December 2020 and was completed on 05th June 2022 at a tune of shs. 720M.
