Residents of Kirehe and Kayonza districts have received livestock support from the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) and Rwanda National Police (RNP) under the Defence and Security Citizen Outreach Programme (DSCOP 2026), aimed at improving household incomes and strengthening community welfare.
The livestock distribution exercise, launched on June 22, will continue throughout the week across several sectors, including Nasho in Kirehe District and Ndego, Mwili, Kabare, and Rwinkwavu in Kayonza District.
A total of 910 goats and six cows are set to be distributed to vulnerable families across the two districts. In Nasho Sector alone, 100 goats and two cows were handed over to residents, particularly those affected by prolonged drought conditions.
Speaking during the launch of the exercise in Nasho, Kirehe District Vice Mayor for Economic Development, Nzirabatinya Modeste, praised the initiative for its contribution to improving the livelihoods of citizens.
He noted that beyond maintaining national security, the RDF and RNP continue to play a key role in supporting socio-economic development and addressing challenges facing communities.
“The donation demonstrates the commitment of our security institutions to improving the welfare of citizens,” he said, adding that the forces have also supported communities through medical outreach services, water supply projects in underserved areas, and other development initiatives.
Beneficiaries welcomed the support, describing it as a life-changing intervention.
Ndayisenga J. Bosco, who received a cow, said the animal would help improve his family’s livelihood through milk production and manure for farming activities.
“This cow will greatly improve our household income and agricultural productivity,” he said.
Another beneficiary, Nyirakamanzi Marceline, expressed gratitude to the RDF and RNP, saying the gesture reflects the strong partnership between citizens and security agencies. She also thanked President Paul Kagame for prioritizing the welfare of Rwandans.
The livestock donation is part of a broader nationwide outreach programme that has, over the past three months, delivered medical services, infrastructure projects, environmental conservation activities, and other community development initiatives.
DSCOP 2026 activities are expected to culminate in the country’s Liberation Day celebrations on July 4.
