Police in Rukiga District have launched investigations into the suspected murder of a 17-year-old student whose body was discovered along a roadside in Rwamucucu Sub-county.
The deceased has been identified as Edward Mugarura, a student of Kihanga Secondary School. His body was found on the morning of December 17, 2025, lying along the road at Nyakatugunda Village, Nyarurambi Parish, in Rukiga District.
According to preliminary police findings, the incident is believed to have occurred on the night of December 16, 2025, at around 10:00pm. The deceased was reportedly drinking alcohol with friends at a bar owned by Ampumuza Gerald in Sindi Ward, Mparo Town Council.
When it was time to leave, the victim is said to have been followed by a group of young men, known to the bar attendant, who were riding a motorcycle and smoking cigarettes.
At about 9:00am on Wednesday, police were alerted after the body was discovered along the road. The Officer in Charge of Mparo immediately informed Rukiga Central Police Station. Detectives visited the scene, which was processed and documented.
A preliminary examination of the body revealed bruises on the back and a swollen head, indicating that the deceased may have been assaulted. A police canine unit from Kabale was later deployed and picked up a scent trail stretching approximately two kilometres, leading back to the bar where the deceased was last seen.
Following the canine-led operation, seven suspects, including the bar owner and attendants, were arrested to assist police with investigations.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson says that the body was retrieved from the scene and conveyed to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination as investigations continue.
Maate said that police say inquiries into the matter are still ongoing.
