The Police in Kabale district are hunting for suspects who allegedly lynched a suspected bean thief to death in Rutooma Parish, Northern division, Kabale Municipality.
The deceased is Moreen Korugyendo approximately 31 year- old business woman and a resident of Rwakaraba trading centre, Northern division in Kabale municipality.
It’s alleged that, today the 22/12/2022, at around 10:00Am, the deceased was found red handed stealing beans in a garden at Butare cell, Rutooma parish, Northern division, Kabale municipality by the locals who arrested her, escorted her up to Burambira village, along Kabale- Kisoro road as they were beating her.
ASP Elly Maate the Kigezi region police Spokesperson says that Police officers at Rwakaraba police station were alerted, whereby the in charge Sgt Ouma Joshua responded to the alarm and on reaching there, the suspects ran away, leaving the deceased lying down unconscious with multiple injuries.
Maate said that before breathing her last breath, the deceased was immediately removed from the scene, rushed to Kabale regional referral hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Maate adds, a case of murder by mob action was registered at Rwakaraba police station, scene visited and statements were recorded from witnesses.
He added that the body was conveyed to Kabale regional referral hospital mortuary for postmortem adding that efforts have been instituted to identify the suspects for arrest and prosecution.
