The Secretary General of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, has urged party cadres to take the lead in promoting household economic empowerment and responsible financial management, alongside their core role of political mobilisation.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony of over 800 coordinators from the ‘Museveni ku Ntikko’ cadre group held yesterday at Green Kard Gardens in Nansana Municipality, Wakiso District on Tuesday,Todwong emphasized the importance of personal financial discipline.

“As NRM cadres, we must develop strong personal financial discipline. Start by critically examining your spending habits,” he advised, encouraging the group to adopt a culture of saving.

Todwong noted that promoting financial responsibility among communities is key to the NRM’s broader development goals and can help translate political support into real, positive change in people’s daily lives.

He also reiterated the NRM’s firm stance on genuine volunteerism, warning against groups driven by financial incentives. Todwong revealed that he has personally cautioned such groups against monetising their support.

“I have written to them and warned: do not collect money from your members. If someone chooses to join voluntarily, let it be out of conviction, not financial motivation,” he said.

He further stressed that the party would not hesitate to disassociate from groups that violate this principle, citing previous instances where voluntary groups were disbanded over financial misconduct.
