The Prime Minister of Tooro Kingdom, Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire, has asked President Museveni to honour the government’s pledge to construct the King Oyo Stadium in Fort Portal and name the facility after the late Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.

In a statement posted on his X handle on Saturday evening, Rwomiire said constructing the stadium would be a fitting tribute to the late king, who offered 50 acres of his personal land for the project.

“Your Excellency, I believe this is the right moment to honour the pledge made to Tooro by making the King Oyo Stadium a reality,” Rwomiire said.

He said when the government called for free land to facilitate construction of the stadium, the late Omukama personally responded by offering 50 acres of his land because he believed in the project and hoped to see a modern stadium built for his people.

Rwomiire said constructing the stadium and naming it after the late king would preserve his memory while creating a lasting sporting and development legacy for the young people of Tooro and Uganda.

“I therefore humbly appeal to you to honour this pledge and make the King Oyo Stadium a reality,” he said.

He added that fulfilling the pledge would mean a great deal to the people of Tooro and ensure that the late king’s generosity, vision and love for his people live on for generations.

The appeal comes following the death of the Omukama of Tooro, who died on Friday aged 34 after a long illness. His death has triggered widespread mourning across the kingdom and the country.
