Uganda is set to take over the chairmanship of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni expected to be elected Chairperson of the APR Forum for a two-year term during the 35th Ordinary Session scheduled for February 20, 2026, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The Minister of State for Planning and Uganda’s APRM Focal Point, Hon. Amos Lugoloobi, confirmed the development on Wednesday after receiving the Chief Executive Officer of the APRM Continental Secretariat, H.E. Amb. Marie-Antoinette Rose Quatre, who is in Uganda on a preparatory mission.

The election of President Museveni will be followed by endorsement during the 39th Ordinary Session of the African Union (AU) Assembly of Heads of State and Government slated for February 21–22, 2026, also in Addis Ababa.

Lugoloobi proposed the theme for Uganda’s tenure: “Leveraging Inter-and Intra-Regional Trade and Security for Africa’s Transformation.” He pledged Uganda’s commitment to offering transformative leadership under the APRM Troika.
