Brian Asaba, who lost in the July 17, 2025, National Resistance Movement (NRM) primaries for the Bunyangabu County parliamentary seat, has officially picked nomination forms to contest as an independent candidate in the 2026 general elections.
Asaba, who came second in the last NRM primaries with 15,370 votes, announced his fresh bid on Thursday afternoon. The primaries were won by Kalenzi Victor with 26,904 votes, followed by Ategeka James Mugarama with 13,307 votes, and incumbent legislator Kamukama Davis who managed 1,809 votes.
Speaking to journalists after collecting the forms, Asaba accused the NRM primary process of being marred by irregularities but insisted his focus remains on serving the people of Bunyangabu.
“I will continue supporting community development initiatives including running an ambulance service, restoring boreholes, repairing bridges, and sponsoring the education of disadvantaged children,” he said.
Despite his criticism of the primary process, Asaba reaffirmed his loyalty to President Yoweri Museveni and pledged to support government programs.
The official nomination of parliamentary candidates is scheduled for September, ahead of the 2026 general elections.
