DP Secretary General Dr. Siranda Urges Kigezi Leaders to Stay Committed, Launches Party Membership Registration Drive

KABALE: Democratic Party (DP) Secretary General Dr. Gerald Siranda has urged the district Party Chairpersons in the Kigezi Sub-region to remain steadfast and committed to the party’s principles, emphasizing its strength and President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s frequent mentions of it.

While launching the party membership registration in the Kigezi Sub-region in Kabale Municipality on Wednesday Dr Sirandi told the district party chairperson in Kigezi that the Democratic Party (DP) is the original party in Uganda. He said that due to its strength and relevance, President Museveni often talks about it and is beginning to forget his own party.

He attributed Uganda’s current challenges to the sidelining of the Democratic Party, asserting that peace will only return when DP takes the lead.

Dr. Siranda commended the district Party Chairpersons in the Kigezi Sub-region for their resilience and dedication, stating, “This is the true leadership we want in the party.”

He reiterated that understanding and advocating for our policies will help them to mobilize others to join our cause stating that once registration exercise is embraced, it will help the party identify its supporters, including people with disabilities and the elderly.

He called on party leaders to act as advocates and ambassadors, actively mobilizing support for the party. He also stressed the importance of strategic communication and planning within the party aimed to identify party members, rejuvenate party structures, and establish a roadmap for leadership from the grassroots to the district level.

Democratic Party Vice President for the Western Region, Imamu Makumbi, urged Kigezi DP leaders to dismiss rumors that the party was sold to the National Resistance Movement (NRM).

He stated that despite Party President Norbert Mao being a minister in the ruling government, he remains committed to the DP, is not a member of the NRM and has already renewed his membership with the Democratic Party.

The Kabale District DP Chairperson, John Baptista Mukamabwiine, Rukiga District DP Chairperson Joseph Kyomukama, Rubanda District DP Chairperson Wilfred Ndihohabwe, Rukingiri District DP Chairperson William Ahereza, and Kanungu District DP Chairperson Moses Akanyijuka were among the first to renew their party membership in the Kigezi Sub-region.
