KAMPALA: The Najjanankumbi faction of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Party has rejected a proposal by the Katonga faction to dissolve the party.

This response comes after the Katonga faction held a National Delegates Conference, where they proposed dissolving the party and forming a new one, among other resolutions.

On August 19, 2024, Nathan Nandala Mafabi, the General Secretary of the FDC Najjanankumbi faction, emphasized that the Forum for Democratic Change is a legally registered party with the Electoral Commission of Uganda.

He clarified that the party’s office bearers are duly registered with the Electoral Commission, and none of the individuals from the Katonga faction claiming to be officers of the party hold official positions.

Mafabi criticized the Delegates Conference, stating that only authorized office bearers can call such meetings.

He pointed out that Mr. Wasswa Biriggwa and Mr. Lukwago Erias, who have been presenting themselves as Party Chairman and Party President respectively, do not hold these positions and are therefore not authorized to convene a delegates conference.

He dismissed the alleged Delegates’ meeting as merely a gathering of “attention-seeking, disgruntled rabble-rousers who should be ignored.”

Mafabi also urged the public not to be misled by what he described as theatrics, particularly by Mr. Lukwago Erias, whom he accused of being known for such behavior.

He further criticized Lukwago’s leadership, particularly in relation to the Kiteezi tragedy, holding him responsible due to his incompetence as a leader.

Mafabi expressed surprise that Lukwago and a few councilors of Kampala Capital City are engaging in what he termed as political jokes instead of focusing on improving the lives of Kampala’s residents.

Despite the internal party disputes, Mafabi noted that the FDC continues its mobilization efforts across the country, with the next activities scheduled to take place in Jinja on Saturday, August 24, 2024.
