FDC to Hold 16th National Council Meeting today amidst Internal Disputes

KAMPALA – Today, on July 28th, 2023, the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) is gathering for its 16th National Council Meeting at the party headquarters in Najjanankumbi, Kampala.

 

The primary goal of this meeting is to address internal disagreements within the party and foster unity and progress.

 

Lately, the party has been grappling with internal turmoil, with accusations of financial impropriety and lack of transparency leveled against the current President of the FDC, Patrick Amuriat, and the party’s secretary-general, Nathan Nandala Mafabi, by Kira Municipality MP, Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, and Kampala Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago.

 

In response to these accusations, President Amuriat has pointed fingers at Gen Salim Saleh, alleging questionable financial dealings between him and Lukwago as the root cause of their disputes.

 

This internal chaos has led to some Party Members abstaining from participating in Party engagements, including the suspension of structural elections until further notice, which were initially planned from the grassroots level.

 

The FDC Chief Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Toterebuka Bamwenda Boniface, had previously scheduled elections for village and Parish structures from July 21st to July 23rd, 2023. The elections were intended to be held at multiple levels, starting from the village level and extending up to the district level.

 

With all these challenges at hand, the meeting’s top priority is to receive a report from the Elders Committee, a body established to address internal disagreements and foster unity within the party.

 

The meeting will be attended by various key figures, including all FDC District Chairpersons, Members of Parliament, members of the National Executive Committee (NEC), three representatives from the Youth League, three representatives from the Women’s League, one flag bearer (MP) who was unsuccessful in the previous elections from each sub-region, and all elected Local Government District Chairpersons and Mayors.

 

As the FDC comes together for this crucial gathering, they aim to reaffirm their commitment to “One Uganda, One People,” emphasizing the importance of unity and collective progress for the betterment of the nation.
