Justine Kobusingye, a 24-year-old second-year Bachelor of Business Administration student at King Ceasor International University, is among the two candidates vying for the Kabale District Female Youth Councillor seat.

Kobusingye, who is contesting as an independent, is facing off with the incumbent, Natasha Namara Ellen, who is also seeking re-election on an independent ticket.

Kobusingye currently serves as the Kabale Municipality National Youth Council Secretary for Female Affairs.

Speaking at a press conference in Kabale Town, Kobusingye said her ambition to join the district council is driven by a desire to become “the voice of the youth.”

She noted that her priority will be advocating for increased funding for youth structures in the district, which she believes have long been neglected.

“We have recently learnt that government releases a lot of funds for the youth, but only a small fraction of it reaches them because it ends up in the wrong hands, and there’s no one to speak out about it. I want to be that voice,” she said.

Kobusingye pledged to ensure that resources allocated under initiatives such as Emyooga, the Youth Livelihood Programme (YLP), and the Parish Development Model (PDM) genuinely benefit the intended youth groups.
