RUKUNGIRI: The Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, Rt Rev Onesimus Asiimwe, has called on Ugandans to approach the upcoming election season with wisdom and discernment.
Delivering his Christmas message in Rukungiri District, Bishop Asiimwe painted a vivid picture of Uganda during elections, likening the period to a “promised land” where aspiring leaders make grandiose pledges, with some even promising to “build bridges where no rivers exist.”
He urged voters to remain vigilant and prayerful, emphasizing the need to elect leaders who genuinely prioritize the nation’s well-being.

“The decisions we make at the ballot box have far-reaching consequences for our communities. We must choose leaders who will serve selflessly and represent the true interests of the people,” he said.
Bishop Asiimwe cautioned against the dangers of poor leadership, noting its potential to leave lasting scars on society. He also called on church leaders to uphold neutrality during this critical period by avoiding political affiliations or hosting campaign activities in places of worship.
“The church must remain a sanctuary of unity and spiritual guidance, a place where all people regardless of political differences feel welcome,” he added.
