KABALE: Kabale Diocese has initiated a program aimed at empowering Catholic men, fostering their active involvement in church activities, and promoting transformation within households and society at large.
The endeavor came to light on Wednesday during the conclusion of a One-Day Conference for the Catholic Women Apostolate, hosted at the Pastoral Center, the administrative heart of Kabale Diocese situated atop Rushoroza Hill in Kabale Municipality. Attendees comprised leaders from various women’s groups across the diocese, spanning six districts: Kabale, Rukiga, Rubanda, Kisoro, Kanungu, and Rukungiri, constituting the Kigezi sub-region.
Sophie Mbonigaba, Chairperson of the Catholic Women Apostolate, Kabale Diocese, disclosed that the empowerment of Catholic men within the diocese is part of Bishop Callist Rubaramira’s strategic vision. Mbonigaba, who also serves as the representative of the Catholic Women Apostolate for the Mbarara Ecclesiastical Province at the national level, underscored the need for gender-balanced empowerment initiatives.
She highlighted instances where women have been empowered while men have been overlooked, leading to detrimental outcomes such as increased alcohol consumption among disenfranchised men. Mbonigaba expressed optimism that by empowering men and encouraging their involvement in the Catholic Men Apostolate, church engagement would surge, fostering the learning of Catholic values, nurturing robust Christian families, mitigating domestic violence, and alleviating poverty.
