KABALE – The Kabale District Woman Member of Parliament, Honorable Catheline Atwakiire Ndamira has emphasized the crucial role of parents during the festive season, expressing concern that many children are adversely affected in the absence of their parents’ guidance.
Speaking at the Christmas Day Celebration service at Mayengo Church of Uganda Parish under Kamuganguzi Archdeaconry in Katuna Town Council, Kabale District, led by Rev Byamukama Johnson, Hon Atwakiire highlighted the increasing trend of parents neglecting their responsibilities, relying on others to care for their children.
She stressed that this negligence contributes to a rise in delinquency rather than nurturing well-rounded citizens.
Emphasizing the significant responsibility parents bear, Honorable Atwakiire urged them to actively mentor their children from a young age through their formative years.
She encouraged parents not to underestimate their influence, advising them to challenge their children if they observe undesirable behavior, as they still hold considerable power.
Expressing concern over the alarming rate of teenage pregnancies, Hon Atwakiire linked this issue to parental negligence, stating that it creates a breeding ground for indiscipline among children.
In addition to her address at Mayengo Church, Hon Atwakiire also participated in the Christmas Day celebration Mass at Kicumbi Catholic Church Centre in Kamuganguzi subcounty.
The service, led by Rev Fr Nyansio Ignitious, Chaplain of Our Lady of Fatima in Kabale Diocese, provided an opportunity for communal worship and reflection during the festive season.
