The Bishop of Muhabura Diocese, Rt. Rev. Godfrey Mbitse, has urged married couples to love one another, work together, and remain united if they are to overcome poverty and promote stability in their families.
Bishop Mbitse made the remarks on Sunday while presiding over a mass wedding ceremony for seven couples at Matinza Church of Uganda Parish in Nyakabande Sub-county, Kisoro District. The wedding was sponsored by the Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs, Grace Akifeza Ngabirano, who is also the Kisoro District Woman Member of Parliament.
The bishop said many families continue to struggle economically because some married couples lack love, unity, and mutual support, which hinders development at the household level. He encouraged spouses to support and appreciate one another, emphasizing that strong family relationships are built on respect, understanding, and cooperation.
Bishop Mbitse particularly appealed to wives to warmly welcome their husbands whenever they return home, regardless of whether they have earned any income. He noted that many men, especially casual labourers, spend long hours searching for work but sometimes return empty-handed despite their efforts.

He commended Minister Akifeza Ngabirano for sponsoring the mass wedding, saying her support had enabled the couples to solemnize their marriages before God.
