Renewing Faith for a Noble Cause: Kabale Diocese Raises 201M for St. Ignatius University Project

KABALE – The Bishop of Kabale Diocese, Rt Rev Callist Rubaramira has today emphasized the significance of renewing one’s faith in God for eternal life during the Bishop Annual Appeal Fund (BAAF) event.

The purpose of the event was to supportĀ  St. Ignatius University Project under Kabale Diocese. Held at Our Lady of Good Shepherd Rushoroza Cathedral Parish, Southern Division in Kabale Municipality, the gathering was a testament to the unity and commitment of the community towards this noble cause.

In his homily, Bishop Rubaramira passionately urged Christians not to doubt but to firmly believe in the resurrection of Jesus Christ. He reminded them not to take their trust and belief in Christ for granted but to pray diligently and allow God’s voice to guide their faith journey.

During the event, the Coordinator of Bishop Annual Appeal Fund for Kabale District, Alex Baguma, announced an ambitious contribution of 500 million shillings for the construction of the University in the District. Baguma earnestly called for cooperation and generous contributions from the community to achieve this significant target for the district.

The chief guest at the function was Henry Musasizi, the state minister for Finance in charge of general duties, representing the Deputy Speaker of parliament, Rt Hon Thomas Tayebwa. Minister Musasizi lauded the church for initiating development projects that aligned with the government’s development agenda.

He himself contributed 10 million shillings and delivered an additional contribution of 20 million shillings from the Deputy Speaker.

Hon Catherine Atwakiire Ndamira, the Kabale District Woman Member of Parliament, emphasized the importance of parents taking advantage of the University to provide their children with quality education. Ndamira highlighted that education is a valuable asset and contributed six million shillings towards the construction of the University.

The Ndorwa East County Member of Parliament, Hon Wilfred Niwagaba, who also serves as the Member of Kabale Diocesan Land Board, spoke about the potential of the University to drive development. He stressed the need to establish constituent colleges in every district within the entire Kigezi Sub-region, providing holistic education to communities. Hon Niwagaba contributed 15 million shillings towards this noble cause.

Several distinguished guests attended the event, including Hon Alex Niyonshaba, Mp Bufumbira South in Kisoro District, Hon Nicholas Kamara, Kabale Municipality Member of Parliament, Sentaro Emmanuel Byamugisha, Kabale Municipality Mayor, and Kabale Resident District Commissioner Godfrey Nyakahuma, among others. Their presence reflected the collective commitment to the success of the University project.

 

The fundraising efforts proved fruitful, as a total of 201,863,500 million shillings were collected in both cash and pledges during the event. The organizers expressed their gratitude for the overwhelming support and announced plans to visit all the districts in the Kigezi sub-region for independent fundraisers. They also revealed a grand event scheduled for November to crown the campaign.

The Bishop Annual Appeal Fund event served as a platform not only to raise funds for the construction of St. Ignatius University but also to reinforce the importance of faith in God and community development. It showcased the unity and dedication of the people of Kabale District in working together towards a brighter future for their children and the entire region.
