KISORO – A devastating road accident at Nateete trading center along Kisoro-Bunagana road has left a 38-year-old man in critical condition at St. Francis Hospital, Mutolere in Kisoro District.
Gasore Fred, a resident of Gako, Muramba Sub County, had his right leg amputated after being involved in the accident yesterday evening.
The unfortunate incident occurred when Gasore Fred was a passenger on a motorcycle driven by 18-year-old Kwiringira Edison. Their motorcycle was hit by a speeding Government Motor vehicle, driven by Kisoro District Health Officer (DHO), Dr. Steven Nsabiyumva.
In a shocking turn of events, Dr. Steven Nsabiyumva attempted to flee from the scene of the accident but ended up driving into a drainage ditch at Mudege, near Muhabura Shine Secondary School. As a result, both Gasore Fred and Dr. Steven Nsabiyumva are currently receiving medical care at St. Francis Hospital, Mutolere.
The Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, Elly Maate, confirmed the incident, highlighting the severity of the situation. Among the first responders was Kisoro Mayor, Richard Ndyana, who, with the support of Nateete trading center residents, rushed Gasore to Mutolere Hospital.

The Chief Administrative Officer of Kisoro, Hajji Badru Mayanja, also verified that Dr. Steven Nsabiyumva, a member of his staff, is admitted at Mutolere Hospital due to the injuries sustained in the accident.
