The Assistant Parish Priest of St. Joseph’s Gatete Parish in Kisoro District, Rev Fr Jeremias Nsabimana has asked Christians to remain steadfast in faith and rely on the Word of God whenever they face life’s temptations.

In his homily during the second Mass at Christ the King Catholic Church Parish in Kabale Municipality on Sunday, Rev Fr Nsabimana asked Christians to draw lessons from the temptation of Jesus Christ in the wilderness as recorded in the Gospel according to Gospel of Matthew.

He emphasized that Jesus countered every temptation by declaring, “It is written,” demonstrating the importance of knowing and applying God’s Word in moments of trial. He encouraged Christians to make Scripture part of their daily lives, noting that spiritual strength comes from understanding and living by biblical teachings.

He further highlighted that temptation often strikes when individuals are physically, emotionally, or spiritually weak. Just as Jesus was tempted after fasting for 40 days, Rev Fr Nsabimana explained that vulnerability can become a doorway for spiritual battles. However, he reassured the faithful that such moments are not signs of abandonment, but opportunities for growth and deeper trust in God.

Speaking about the role of the Holy Spirit, he reminded the congregation that Jesus was led into the wilderness by the Spirit, showing that trials can be part of God’s divine plan to prepare and strengthen His people for greater missions ahead.

Rev Fr Nsabimana assured Christians that just as angels ministered to Jesus after his testing, God always provides a way of escape and the strength to endure. He encouraged them to remain prayerful, rooted in Scripture, and guided by the Holy Spirit in every season of life.
